Bought this unit from Costco couple of days thanks for the $30.00 coupon. This is my very first Blue Ray DVD player. My first Blue Ray DVD disc was “Deliverance”. It went straight to the movie and did not even stop at the “Menu” set up. Our second movie was “Horton” the cartoon and this one worked fine. Then the 3rd movie “Friday the 13th” could not be played and I had tried several times on this movie. The 1590 seemed cannot syn with my SONY 46″. The 4th movie could not be played with this 1590 either. Tonight my family tried to play the 5th Blue Ray DVD movie and it did NOT work either!!!
My TV display showed 480 only instead of 1080. Seems the 1590 doesn’t communicate with my SONY.
Not sure if I got a bad unit or what but I will do an exchange. This is the very first time I bought a Samsung product and I’m disappointed. Probably I should buy a SONY, like the S350, S360, S550 or the S560.

I purchased this blu-ray player one month ago, I downloaded the firmware upgrade which locked up the whole system and had to send it back to Samsung to get it fixed. The other thing that I hate about this player is the wireless adapter that is $80, my damm ipod has built in wi-fi and samsung couldent fit it into this blu-ray player. I will never buy anything Samsung ever again

Saw this unit at Walmart, $148, with another $20 off right then and there. Sweet. Streams Netfilx! Sweet!
Brought it home and hooked it up. Placed batteries in the remote, not included. HDMI connected to LG LCD LED 55″. Pushed power, nothing happened. Checked connections, all good. Pushed power, nothing. Pushed power several times, and it came on. A little noisy. I tried the buttons on the front of the machine. Nice, barely need to touch them, kinda neat. Did not have a blu ray disc, so I threw in the new Star Trek movie, regular dvd. Wow! Non blu ray up converted to 1080p. Awesome picture!! Just spectacular!! BUT…I could immediately see a lip sync issue. Speech was noticeably off. In fight scenes, the sound of an impact, and the actual contact, were noticeably off. Then, camera motion on scenes showed distortion, almost like seeing heat waves on pavement in the desert. Happened in several scenes. I have never seen that from my current hi def up converting Sony dvd player, or from any broadcast station. I never got it hooked up to the internet, so I never experienced the firmware update machine killer so many others talked about. Needless to say, I drove straight back to the store and returned it. This one is a dud, and due to so many bad reviews, I doubt I just got a lemon. Beware of this one.

I purchased this refurbished from a place it could be returned. So far I have watched one BD movie (Star Trek) which played fine and streamed Netflix and Pandora (both are fine). Haven’t even tried a dvd yet. First impressions: set up was fairly easy, player looks nice, very sleek. Network connected with no problems (dhcp). I’m not sure which version of firmware I have, but it is not current because it asks me to update (I have not done this!). For less than 100 clams, I am satisfied so far. Will keep testing. Had one problem with audio, which I think is my reciever rather than player. One or more channels of audio drop out intermittently in downmixed DTS mode and in Dolby PL II (PCM) mode (which has happened to me on playback sometimes with PL II from other sources). Problem solved by switching player audio output to bitstream (over optical cable). Now I have the native audio from the disk, but no secondary or effects audio
Not sure what this will mean in the long run. I hope this player will hold up, I love the netflix streaming because I am no longer using just my laptop screen!

This unit was bricked less than 2 hours after setting it up and hooking it to my network. The unit prompted for a firmware update (that’s usually a good thing, right? WRONG!) as soon as it was connected to the network – after installing the unit, it worked fine for a bit till it shut down after a few minutes of inactivity. After powering it back on, it goes into an endless loop of “disc cannot be read” messages when NO disc is inserted. At this point, the only functionality available is the power and eject buttons. Also, the instructions Samsung gives to reset the unit do not work at this point. What a waste of money! Please do your research online before purchasing this unit, for all the functionality it advertises it cannot handle its own firmware update.
