HDMI Connectivity – Can anyone shed some light?
I have a Panasonic TH-42PZ80B HD Ready TV. I also have a Panasonic SC-PT460 Home Theatre System. These are connected via the one of two HDMI sockets at the rear of the TV.
I want a Panasonic DVD Recorder with Hard Disc (DMR-EX78) too which I will be purchasing soon. I presume that this will also connect via the remaing HDMI socket on the TV.
I also am looking at going for Freesat as an alternative to Sky. This is purely for the HD facility which is free for the BBC and ITV channels, whereas Sky charge extra for them. This will also need a HDMI link.
I would have to go for the HD box. There will be a HD box with a hard disc available later in the year but I think I prefer to go the Panasonic route because of the Viera Link. They reckon at Freesat that their HD/HDD will record HD and playback same but I not so sure that they can do that without BlueRay.
Anyway, how do go about networking all of these devices so that I don’t have to unplug the cables?
You can get an HDMI hub for lack of a better term. It basically the same as a USB hub for your computer.
It’s going to split the connection for you. Some require that you actually “hit a switch” to switch between the device you want to use on the hub, while others have smart switching which will detect what is currently active and working.
The only problem I see is using 3 of the 4 devices at the same time.
Good HDMI splitters or HDMI hubs and you’ll find quite an array of products that are going to split that connection off for you.
