How to connect laptop to Sony Home Theater?
I have an old model TV that has just a simple Video and Audio input which is connected to a Sony Home Theater DAV-HDX500. The Home Theater has various kinds of audio and video inputs and outputs.
Existing arrangement: Cable TV output -> Home Theater -> TV.
Now I would like to connect my laptop which has a composite video output to the Home Theater, so that I can watch video content on my television.
Is this possible? Is yea, how can this be done? If no, why not?

I have tried the “composite” output on a video card for a desktop in the past and the quality was unreadable till you found the perfect odd screen resolution and refresh rate for your computer or laptop.
I went through a few moments where I messed the refresh rate and settings up so bad I couldn’t see the desktop any longer on either device, monitor or TV. Had to reboot into safe mode to reset things and try again.
I remember getting a decent (although not perfect) picture briefly after trying the S-Video option my card also supported.
So far after reading various sites while researching this answer it looks like the simplest of ways and most reliable is to use the SCART adapter method as pictured in the first 2 links.
Hope that helps you a bit, even though it’s not a definitive answer but it might be an alternative solution. On the upside of using a SCART adapter you would be able to use it with just about any computer or laptop (PC or MAC) that supported VGA output.
